Visit a Wind Farm
If you would like to visit a wind farm, you can visit Bord na Móna’s Mountlucas Wind Farm and SSE Renewables’ Galway Wind Park. Read on for more details.
Bord na Móna facilitate tours of our Mountlucas Wind Farm. You can meet a member of our Mountlucas Wind Farm staff by appointment and they will provide you with a tour of the site. Group bookings also welcome. To book a tour please contact Catherine on 087-1175756.
Alternatively, if you don't want to take part in a tour you can visit the wind farm yourself. Our 10km public walkway/cycleway is open seven days a week (except for the 21st December).
On-site parking facilities are available on both the R402 (Edenderry to Daingean road) and the R400 (Mount Lucas to Portarlington road). All tours and access to the walkway/cycleway are free of charge.

The Galway Wind Way is a range of recreational trails at Galway Wind Park. The trails, which total 48km across six distinct routes, are designed to be fun for the whole family, from the experienced explorer to the Sunday stroller (or roller – check out our buggy and wheelchair-accessible route!)
The Galway Wind Way takes you through the heart of wild and remote Connemara, a place rich in local stories and heritage. Our ancestors walked these hills as farmers and foresters. They hunted the birds and fish which still thrive today in their native habitats.
As you explore the trails, walkers can learn how the landscape of the Cloosh Valley has changed over hundreds of years. And how this place we call home has helped meet the evolving needs of local people and wildlife.
